William Shakespeare’s Poems

Shakespeare penned a few numbers of narrative poems in addition to his sonnets and plays. The Venus and Adonis and the famed Rape of Lucrece are his famous poems.

Shakespeare is considered as a literary genius and he is more admired because of the amazing words of his poems. He is the greatest writer and poet in the whole western world. His poetry and quotes of poetry are common to every person.

And still when people think about Shakespeare, they immediately think of his popular theatres and poems and not his less popular poetries. The lifespan of the Bard playwrights were not regarded as ‘serious’ writers with ‘serious’ skill. However, it was highly trendy to write plays or poems. Poems were written for the privilege and plays were written for leisure.

There was not yet such a thing as a tradition which constructs theatre in anticipation of 1576. Actors were common folk. Poets of the period such as Sir Walter Raleigh, Christopher Marlowe and Sir Philip Sydney of the dignity and their poetries are yet enjoyed presently. These poets are honest and therefore, have written number of poems.

William Shakespeare appeared from Yeoman stock. He was short of credibility and so his poetries were not supported by most of the people. The Bard did not provide authorization for one of his sonnets or his plays to be in print. But he was happy to have his sonnets or poems available.

A Lover’s Complaint Poem

A Lover’s Complaint is one of the poetries of William Shakespeare which was ignored, presuming that it is his. Firstly, Thomas Thorpe made this poem and it was initially published in 1609. This poem was written in about 329 lines and it explored themes of seduction and betrayal.

Venus and Adonis Poem

Shakespeare’s “Venus and Adonis” poem was registered on 18 th April, 1593. Shakespeare has written this poem in about 6-line stanzas. Richard Field has published this poem. It was devoted to Third Earl of Southampton, Shakespeare’s patron and Henry Wriothesley. This devotion is referred to the ‘unpolisht lines’ of the author and includes the usually fawning language of a commoner addressing a nobleman in the hope of retaining or obtaining their patronage in exchange of poetries dedicated to the recipient.

The Rape of Lucrece Poem

Shakespeare’s “The Rape of Lucrece” was registered on 9 th May, 1594. He wrote his poem in rhyme royal. It appeared in many Quarto versions. It is a narrative poetry resembling a vengeance disaster with about 1,855 lines.

The Passionate Pilgrim Poems

It is a set of 20 poems by a few numbers of writers and was published in 1599. It contains alternate versions of Shakespeare’s sonnet and 3 were taken out from his Love’s Labour’s Lost.

The Phoenix and the turtle Poems

It was a symbolic work by Shakespeare on the death and love of two birds, the turtledove and the phoenix. The poetry was initially contained in an anthology known as Love’s Martyr.
