Shakespeare Romeo and Juliet
The most regrettable and brilliant tragedy commonly known as Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare relating to the destiny of two young lovers. It is the most popular among all the plays and is considered to be the most classic love story in the Western history.
The play starts with a 14 line introduction in the form of a Shakespearean rhyme. The choral group clarifies to the viewers that the story is based on the two decent families of Verona known as Montagues and Capulets that have quarreled for creations. The play is divided into five acts such as Act I, II, III, IV and IV. In the end of the play, it depicts that how the two lovers do suicide and ends the quarrel between the two families.
Characters of Romeo and Juliet Play
Montague – He is a father of Romeo and the head of the family and had a war with Capulets.
Romeo – He is a son of Montague who falls in love with Juliet.
Mercutio – He is a friend of Romeo and a kinsman to the prince.
Lady Montague – She is a mother of Romeo and a wife of Lord Montague.
Balthasar – He is a servant of Romeo and his faithful friend.
Benvolio – He is also a friend of Romeo and a nephew of Montague and considers being a peace loving and kind young man.
Juliet – She is a daughter of Capulet who falls in love with Romeo.
Abram – He is a servant of the Montague family.
Story of the Play
The servants of Capulets family, Gregory and Sampson and the servants of Montague family, Balthasar and Abraham had a fight on the street that is attended by Capulet and Montague. Verona ’s prince named as Escalus affirms a death punishment for having a dispute in the future between both the families. The friend of Romeo, Benvolio advises Romeo to watch other girls. Capulet make a decision to marry his daughter, Juliet with Paris and planned to throw a party.
This party was also attended by Romeo. Romeo and Juliet get attracted to each other at first sight in the party. But their friends told them that there is a conflict between their families. They both were intensely in love that they cannot forget each other and decided to get marry. Juliet sent a messenger to Romeo to make a strategy for their marriage.
Romeo along with his friend, Benvolio and Mercutio visits the house of Juliet and climbed into the bedchamber of Juliet with the help of ropes or cords and finally, they got married. When Capulet knew of their wedding, then he incites Romeo into the fighting.
Then Mercutio got killed by Tybalt, cousin of Juliet and seeing this, Romeo killed Tybalt. Then Escalus expels Romeo out of Verona for the death of Tybalt. When Juliet recognizes that Romeo has killed his cousin, she was tattered between her love and her family.
Juliet and Romeo got separated. Capulet, father of Juliet decided to marry her daughter to Paris as he was unaware of the wedding of Romeo and Juliet. She fights for her desires with his father but failed to change his mind.
Friar Laurence advices Juliet to acquire a medicine suggesting death so that everybody will believe that she is dead and Romeo can take her away. The wedding date was decided on Thursday but it was pre-poned to Wednesday. All were busy in the preparations of the wedding. But Juliet takes a medicine before sleeping without knowing the intentions of the Friar Laurence.
When the nurse wakes up Juliet at 3 o’ clock A.M, she saw that Juliet was dead. When Romeo knew about the death of Juliet, he returned to Verona to watch Juliet for the last time and also bought poison from a confined Apothecary. But Romeo was unaware about the plan that Juliet is not deceased and he reaches at the funeral of Juliet, kisses her and takes the poison and dies.
But Friar Laurence came very late and Juliet was awakened but when she saw Romeo to be dead, she also attempts herself to death. When both the families knew about the death of their children, then they were rebuked by the Prince of Verona and at last the dispute between both the families ends. The play finishes on the terrible love story of Romeo and Juliet.
